MAY DUGAN CENTER REGRETFULLY ANNOUNCES THE CANCELLATION OF
THE 7TH ANNUAL IRISH ROOTS FESTIVAL
Every year the May Dugan Center looks forward to celebrating its Irish Roots Festival and sharing the amazing work being done through our programs with you. 2020 is especially important because of our special 50th Anniversary Celebration. However, given the present pandemic and our concern for you, our staff, clients, and the community, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel The 7th Annual Irish Roots Festival this year.
This was a tough call to make. The Irish Roots Festival is an incredibly important event for May Dugan Center. In addition to celebrating our roots, the event raises substantial funds used to support the Center’s programs and operations-- but we need to prioritize the health and safety of you, our employees, and everyone who helps make this event happen. We explored other ways to keep the event as scheduled; however, we did not find an alternative that could match our need for this type of programming or that felt appropriate given the current circumstances.
During the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, the May Dugan Center has not only kept serving, but it continues to adapted programming to ensure people continue to receive essential services. We are seeing a major spike in demand for our pantry services. In one week alone during an April distribution, we distributed over 26,010 meals (50% of people had never used a pantry.) Just since March, two of our pregnant teens have given birth to healthy babies, and our MomsFirst program is making sure mom and baby get the emotional and physical support they need. Our senior program continues to regularly connect through online programming for music therapy and educational enrichment by Zoom. People are reaching out to us to continue their adult education, receive mental health counseling, maintain sobriety, and manage victimization. Families rely on us to make it through the economic constraints of the coronavirus. We can't do what we do without your generosity.
While the Irish Roots Festival may be canceled for 2020, it will return in 2021! Until then, we are hoping you will support the May Dugan Center and the thousands of people we serve each year.
Please consider making a donation to May Dugan Center equal to or greater than the cost of attending the Irish Roots Festival! Your “ticket” donation will go a long way in ensuring that the over 6,500 people that depend on May Dugan Center each year will have a place to receive critical and essential services.
